INFANTS & CHILDREN
Andrea has over 18 years of experience in the treatment of babies, infants and children, as well as working extensively with pregnant women during the same period of time.
Osteopaths work with, refer to and receive referrals from child health nurses, paediatricians, general medical practitioners and other health professionals.
Before any manual therapy is provided to a child, a thorough case history is taken and health status assessed. This draws on previously performed health and medical tests in addition to an osteopath’s own diagnostic tests and observations. Referral to a medical practitioner or other relevant health practitioners is facilitated wherever any potential complex health risks are identified or suspected.
Andrea has undergone further study to enable her to detect and release musculo-skeletal strains and tensions in newborn babies, infants, toddlers and children. Parents frequently bring their babies in for a session after birth, whether a child is born via natural delivery or caesarean section and whether labour is rapid or prolonged, there can be some musculo-skeletal strain within the newborn's body.
Osteopaths do not focus on treating conditions, but on ensuring that the individual child is physically comfortable and balanced. Osteopaths identify that ailments within the body tend to involve some restriction in the free function and motion of bones, tissues, organs, and fluids.
Osteopathic treatment is recognised as being very respectful and comfortable. Babies and adults alike seem to enjoy treatment.
Andrea has been diligent in her ongoing post-graduate study over the past 18 years, completing study in areas such as Perinatology, Pregnancy and Paediatrics, including having completed 3 years training in Paediatric Osteopathy at the Swiss Academy of Traditional Osteopathy.
Andrea has completed extensive local and overseas training specifically in the assessment, management and treatment of infants and children. She also has extensive experience in the pre and post-natal care of mothers.
